Tour to Lithuania and Latvia

Vilnius Kaunas Klaipėda The Curonian Spit Riga Gauja National Park

8 days / 7 nights

A Baltic tour that covers the most beautiful parts of Lithuania and Latvia: capitals and national parks. The roundtrip starts and ends in Vilnius but we can change it to Riga on request.

Day 1. Arrival in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Transfer to a hotel. Dinner. Evening activities on request.

Day 2. Walking tour of Vilnius Old Town: the Town Hall Square and Vilnius University, the oldest university in The Baltics, dating back to 1579; walking down Pilies street to the Cathedral Square with Gediminas’ Tower up on the hill right next to it, where according to a legend the city of Vilnius was founded; visiting gothic St. Anne’s church and historical-architectural ensemble of Bernardines, and other sights. Lunch. Afternoon tour to Trakai, a former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania with a beautiful castle in one of the islands of Lake Galvė. Dinner and optional evening activities.

Day 3. Departure to Kaunas. En route stop in Rumšiškės Open-Air Ethnographic Museum which displays a vast collection of buildings from different regions of Lithuania. Lunch. Arrival to Kaunas, the second largest city of Lithuania. Tour of Kaunas Old Town: Kaunas Castle from the 13th century, Town Hall square, Cathedral, and other sights. Arrival to a hotel. Dinner. Evening activities on request.

Day 4. Departure to Klaipėda. Tour of Klaipėda Old Town. Lunch. Short ferry ride from Klaipėda to Smiltynė and further drive to Nida. En route stop in Juodkrantė – a small fishermen’s village – to visit the Hill of Witches. Further drive to Nida with short stops to see the finest sand dunes. Tour in Nida with optional visits to Thomas Mann‘s museum and Fisherman‘s House. Return to Klaipėda. Dinner and optional evening activities.

Day 5. Departure to Riga. En route stop in Palanga to visit the Amber Museum which exhibits thousands of pieces of amber and inclusions of insects. Further drive with a short stop at the Hill of Crosses, a unique place with thousands of crosses. Lunch. En route stop at the Rundale Palace and Park in Latvia, an 18th century Duke’s summer residence designed by a famous Italian architect Francesco B. Rastrelli. Evening arrival to a hotel in Riga. Dinner. Evening activities on request.

Day 6. All day tour to Gauja National Park to visit the medieval castle in Turaida which was built in the 13th century under the direction of Albert, Bishop of Riga; ruins of Sigulda castle; Gutmans Cave, the largest grotto in the Baltics; and other sights. Return to Riga. Dinner and optional evening activities.

Day 7. Walking tour of Riga Old Town: walking by the Riga Castle and the Three Brothers, three oldest dwelling houses in Riga, each dating a different century; visiting the Dome Cathedral which is a famous concert hall and St. Peter’s Church which will take you up to its spire to see the spectacular panoramic view of Riga; going to Livu square to see the old Guild Houses and back to the Town Hall Square with its beautiful House of the Blackheads which used to host the guild for unmarried German merchants; and other sights. Lunch. Departure to Vilnius. Evening arrival in Vilnius. Dinner. Evening activities on request.

Day 8. Transfer to the airport in Vilnius. Departure.
