Klaipėda
Lithuania's sea port with Curonian Spit just across the Lagoon
The only sea port and the third largest city of Lithuania has spent most of its years outside of Lithuania - it has been controlled by the Teutonic Knights, Prussia and German Empire. That's a reason why so much german influence and heritage can be seen in Klaipėda. Walking around the city you will also find a lot of interesting sculptures (although you might need someone to show you the smallest ones). If you happen to come to Klaipėda at the end of July you will get to see the annual Sea Festival. And just a short ferry ride away from Klaipėda is the amazing Curonian Spit full of sand dunes and long beaches. And one more place close to Klaipėda is Palanga - a popular seaside resort that also has the Amber museum.
