The second largest city of Estonia, lying in the southern part of the country, is also often considered as the intellectual and cultural hub of Estonia. Mostly because it is home to Estonia's oldest university, founded in 1632 by King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. The main university building is one of the most visited places in Tartu. But university is definitely not all Tartu has! Ruins of the old cathedral, St. Jonh's church, the Town Hall Square, the Angels' Bridge and the Devils' Bridge, and all the sculptures around the city. It's nice and quiet here during the summer months but if you come to Tartu when the students are back... get ready for some student life!
